The City of Laredo Vital Statistics Office can issue certified birth certificates for individuals born in the State of Texas (exceptions may apply). Texas law mandates that birth certificates are confidential records with restricted access. Birth records are restricted until 75 years after the filed date. You must have a valid ID, payment and be a qualified applicant to obtain the record.
Types of Birth Certificates
This office issues two types of birth certificates:
- Long Form Certificates for the births that occurred in the City of Laredo. (Most often used to obtain a passport, apply for dual citizenship, and immigration.)
- Basic Form Certificate for births that occurred outside of the City of Laredo but in the State of Texas. (Most commonly used, as it will be accepted when registering a child for school, in a youth sports league, and when you are applying for a drivers license or identification card.)
This office does not issue wallet size birth certificates.
Qualified Applicant
The person named on the record, a parent, child (over the age of 18), sibling, spouse, grandparent, legal guardian or managing conservator.
Proper Identification
The qualified applicant must present a Valid Government or State Issued Picture Identification. All identification and supporting documents presented are subject to inspection and approval. The Vital Statistics Registrar retains the right to reject identification deemed unacceptable or insufficient.
Effective 9-1-15, Senate Bill 200 requires a person applying for a certified copy of a birth or death record by mail, email or fax to provide notarized proof of identity before the record can be issued.
